Leirvik is located on Eysturoys east-cost.
Leirvik is an old village. Excavations have shown that there was a farm here in the Viking age (year 900).
Tradition says that Black Death (the plague) killed everyone but a little girl in Leirvik in 1349.
The tunnel from Gųta to Leirvik is 2300 meters long. It was blown through the mountain in 1985.
In 2004 a subsea tunnel was drilled to Klaksvķk.
Leirvik has a factory where they make salted fish for export to the Mediterranean countries.
