Haralssund is located on the east-coast of Kunoy and is connected to the village Kunoy on the west-coast by a tunnel.
On the east it is to Boršoy (Klaksvķk) by a dam. The tunnel and the dam were built in the late 1980s.
2 kilometers south of the village there is a small ruin.
Legend says that there was a Dutch community here many years ago.
North of Haraldssund there is a depopulated village called Skard. All men in the village were killed when a storm came on while they were on the sea fishing. This tragedy happened in 1913. After this the women and children left the village for good.
In 1705 a farmer lost his farm because he was found guilty in having bought tobacco paid with two pairs of socks from a Dutch ship. In those days dealing with others than one specific company was illegal.
